For the longest time I had a dandruff problem which seemed not to go away no matter how much I shampooed or moisturised my scalp. The breakthrough finally came when I added tea tree oil to my hair care regimen. Dandruff has several causes such as yeast infection, poor diet or certain skin conditions. Below are other essential oils in addition to tea tree oil which can be used to reduce dandruff and to relieve itching and flaking.
1. Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree oil is particularly effective against fungal and bacterial infections. It also soothes itchy skin caused by dandruff.
2. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Eucalyptus essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help to soothe the scalp.
3. Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint essential oil soothes and cools the scalp and helps to calm itchiness and to combat flaking.
4. Lavender Essential Oil
This is a gentle moisturiser with powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties promoting a healthy scalp and helps to eliminate dandruff.
5. Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass essential oil has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties and provides itch relief.
6. Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil restores oil balance on the scalp and it is a powerful anti-oxidant. It also has anti-septic properties and works against fungus and bacteria causing dandruff.
2 tablespoons of your preferred carrier oil (coconut oil, castor oil or sweet almond oil)
